Vitamin B group for Teeth Grinding and Health

Deficiency of important vitamins and minerals can cause teeth grinding. B-group vitamins play an important role in stress reduction and hence can help with teeth grinding together with other relaxation techniques.

Below is one of my article on the vitamin B complex that can give you a general information about it.

Vitamin B Complex at a Glance

Vitamin B complex is a group of several different water-soluble vitamins. Some of them are:

Thiamine (B1) - Vitamin B1 or thiamin helps the body convert food into energy. It plays an important role in producing fat and metabolizing protein. Thiamin is also necessary to maintain the normal functioning of the nervous system and it has the ability to improve our mental functioning. Some food sources are beans, zucchini, asparagus, peas, lettuce and peppers.

Riboflavin (B2) - Riboflavin works with other B-complex vitamins to provide the body with energy by metabolizing fats, proteins and carbohydrates. It also plays an important role in fighting free radical, helping decrease migraine headaches and preventing cataracts. Some food sources of riboflavin are wheat germ, mushrooms, broccoli, watercress and asparagus.

Niacin (B3) - Niacin works with other B-complex vitamins to provide the body with energy. It is very useful in preventing and curing the heart-related diseases. It is also commonly used for diseases like insulin-dependent diabetes, arthritis and migraine headaches. Some food sources are tuna, salmon, chicken, whole wheat, asparagus and zucchini.

Pantothenic acid (B5) - It works with other B-complex vitamins to provide the body with energy. Vitamin B5 is known to be useful in treating rheumatoid arthritis and high blood cholesterol. Some food sources are sunflower seeds, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, tomatoes and strawberries.

Pyridoxine (B6) - B6 is considered to be highly effective against many different health conditions. It can help prevent heart disease, ease premenstrual syndrome, assist with controlling one's mood as well as behavior and as such it is useful for children with learning difficulties. Some food sources of vitamin B6 are watercress, cauliflower, cabbage, peppers, bananas and red kidney beans.

Cyanocobalamin (B12) Vitamin B12 helps promote red blood cells in the body and assists in the proper functioning of the nervous system. Some of the reliable animal sources of Vitamin B12 are oysters, sardines, tuna, shrimps, eggs and cheese. It is recommended that vegetarians take B12 supplement after consulting with a doctor.

Folic acid - Folate or Folic acid helps prevent birth defects by protecting the fetuses, helps prevent cervical cancer and combat osteoporosis and heart diseases. Some food sources are wheat germ, spinach, avocados, sesame seeds, hazelnuts and cashews.

Biotin - As any other vitamin of this group Biotin contributes to the process of metabolism. It promotes healthy skin, hair and nails and is known to be effective in controlling blood sugar levels in diabetics. Some food sources are cauliflower, lettuce, cabbage, peas, tomatoes and eggs.

Make sure you include vitamin B complex in your diet to help you with teeth grinding.

Calcium for Teeth Grinding and Health

Calcium deficiency might be one of the causes of teeth grinding. Calcium plays an important role in maintenance of good health.

Here is one of my articles on calcium benefits for health:

Calcium - How it Benefits the Body

Calcium is one of the most crucial minerals needed for the normal growth and functioning of our bodies. It is especially required to maintain strong teeth and bones. Hair, nails, sweat, skin, urine and feces - all of them take calcium out of the body. The used up calcium has to be replaced by regular intake of calcium and if the body doesn't get the required amount from the external sources it turns to the internal storage of the calcium, i.e. the bones.

Since the bone loss accelerates soon after the menopause, women are more vulnerable to osteoporosis than men. Osteoporosis is a condition that results in the thinning of bones.

As per the guidelines issued by the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine (USA) in Dietary Reference Intakes Research Synthesis: Workshop Summary daily calcium intake for men and women of different age groups is as given below:

Age Group Recommended Intake

Women and men aged between 9 and 18 years - 1,300 mg

Women and men aged between 19 and 50 years - 1,000 mg

Women and men 51 and over - 1,200 mg

To help with its absorption, calcium should be taken with the vitamin D. Other minerals that work with calcium to strengthen the bones are magnesium and boron.

How calcium benefits the body:

* Regular intake of calcium makes the teeth stronger and helps avoid dental problems.

* It helps to keep the blood pressure under control. The hormone calcitriol that is released in response to calcium shortage acts on the smooth muscle walls of the arteries constricting them and elevating the blood pressure.

* Calcium aids in muscle contractions and hence enables the heart and the blood
vessels to perform their functions effectively.

* Regular intake of calcium helps keep the weight off. Research suggests that a person with a calcium deficiency in the diet is more likely to be overweight.

* Calcium also protects against colon cancer. Adequate calcium intake in the regular diet can reduce the overall risk of colon cancer and stop the growth of polyps that can lead to cancer.

Some food sources of calcium are Swiss cheese, cheddar cheese, almond, brewer's yeast, parsley, pumpkin seeds and cooked dried beans.

Make sure you include calcium in your diet while you are on a natural teeth grinding help program for the best results.

Magnesium - What it Can Do For the Body

Magnesium is an important mineral that promotes the healthy functioning of our body. It is vital for many biochemical processes in the body. Magnesium is stored in all body tissues.

How magnesium benefits the body:

Teeth Grinding Help Tips

Teeth grinding is a problem that is hard to recognize. In fact you can have it for some time without realizing it.
If you have worn down teeth, jaw problems and headaches the cause is most likely the teeth grinding.

The popular methods used by mainstream medicine such as mouth guards only perpetuate the problem. The cause itself should be eliminated.

If you already developed serious teeth and jaw problem, you need to see a dentist. These are just symptoms but they need to be cured.

Some reasons for teeth grinding can be vitamins and minerals deficiency, namely vitamin B group, calcium and magnesium.

The main reason, however, is the stress. That's why relaxation exercises and stress reduction techniques are so efficient for this problem.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

1. Practice tai-chi or yoga. If you are practicing yoga, pay attention to breathing exercises. Yogic breathing exercises or Pranayama are very effective for stress-release.

2. Limit or eliminate the consumption of alcoholic drinks.

3. Take a relaxing bath with essential oils such as lavender.

4. If you are a workaholic, make sure you take at least 10 minutes off after every 2 hours, so the stress will not accumulate in your body.

5. Take long walks in a nice area, if possible. If you live near the ocean, take walks along the beach. The sound of the water in addition to walking will provide with extra stress-releasing benefits.

6. You might also consider taking a program that focuses specifically on relaxation techniques that help with teeth grinding.

Teeth Grinding Help

Teeth grinding or bruxism is a problem that many people have even without realizing it. I had that problem too but not in a severe form. However even in the mild form it affected negatively my teeth. I personally learned about it when I visited my dentist.

It is not hard to stop teeth grinding if you know how. The problem is that all widely-known products that suppose to help with this problem in reality just perpetuate or deepen it.

What is teeth grinding?

Teeth grinding is clenching or grinding the teeth without being consciously aware of it. Do you have frequent headaches, jaw pain, cracked teeth? It is possible that all of these problems are related and caused by teeth grinding at night.
As it was already mentioned the symptoms of this disorder are headaches, jaw problems that can even lead to a surgery, the wearing off of the teeth, ear pain.
It can cause lots of discomfort if the problem is not rectified. It can also eventually result in more serious problems.

What are some causes of this teeth grinding?

The main cause of teeth grinding is stress. Most of the disorders start with stress and teeth grinding is not an exception.

The widely-known “cures” for this disorder are surgeries, painkillers and mouth guards offered by mainstream medicine only perpetuate the problem not even mentioning that painkillers are addictive and can actually kill you at the end (as we unfortunately witnessed in celebrity death cases).

Surgeries are not a permanent solution to the problem because they do not address the TEETH GRINDING so sooner or later you will need another surgery to correct the newly developed problem.

Mouth guards provide just temporary protection for the teeth and jaw. As time goes by the users of mouth guards apply even more pressure trying to restore the familiar "grinding teeth" mode so eventually the problem is getting worse.

If you already developed complications such as jaw problems, they need to be addressed through a surgery however your main focus should be on the permanent elimination of this problem.

What is the Best Solution?

The best approach is to find natural, non-invasive stress release techniques. They can help with this problem tremendously. Simple steps such as breathing exercises can help improve the quality of sleep, release stress and a variety of stress-related diseases. There are specific breathing exercises designed for teeth grinding that together with other natural techniques can help eliminate this problem for good.
